Rome & Umbria: Fall 2007

Paesano's long with our friends from Cultural Encounters as we travel through 20 centuries of Italian history in 8 days of touring through the hills of Umbria and the streets of Rome this fall. This year our group will experience the beauty of the medieval hill towns of Umbria, the excitement of ancient and papal Rome, the lives of such diverse characters as the Emperor Augustus and Saint Francis, and the incredible art of such masters as Perugino, Raphael, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Bernini. And, as always, this tour will feature exceptional wines and cuisine served in restaurants chosen for their quality and ambience.

We will spend the first 3 nights in Umbria, the “Green Heart of Italy”. We’ll stay in a splendid 16th-century mansion, just outside of Perugia, set in 22 acres of pines woods and fragrant landscaped gardens. This luxurious superior 4-star hotel has two restaurants, an outdoor pool, a piano bar, and lovely terraces. Umbria is a region of wooded hills, lush valleys, and placid lakes spiked with lovely hill towns crammed with ancient, medieval, and Renaissance art. Three of the towns that we will visit — Perugia, Assisi, and Orvieto— are works of art in themselves.

Then it’s on to Rome: Mama mia, what a fabulous city, both above and below ground! During our 5-night stay, we’ll be based in the historic center of the city, giving easy walking access to almost all the major sights and great shopping. Our hotel, the elegant 4-star Hotel Ponte Sisto is an oasis of calm and luxury, just steps from many of the city’s historical and artistic treasures.

There is no way we can visit all there is to see in Rome, but in the time we have we will definitely see the best. During our 5-night stay, we’ll tour the heart of Ancient Rome (the Colosseum, the Imperial Forum, Trajan’s Column, and the Pantheon), Medieval Rome (San Clemente Church and the Castel St. Angelo), Renaissance Rome (St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the Campo de’ Fiori), Baroque Rome (Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain) and Royal Rome (The Villa Borghese and Vittorio Emanuelle II Monument).

Travel with us to the Heart of Italy and experience the best in sightseeing, cuisine, and accommodations that Umbria and Rome have to offer. To reserve a seat or for more information, call Cultural Encounters at 734-327-1931 or email Suzan Alexander at Act now because spaces are filling quickly!
