Visitors to the area say that the Italian Riviera is a little bit of Paradise. If that is the case, we will be doubly blessed on this fall's Paesano trip to Italy when we will visit both the Italian and the French Rivieras! Details of the itinerary are still being worked out, but in late September our tour group will leave to spend four nights in Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera, visiting such magical places as the ultra-chic resort town of Portofino, the ancient port city of Genoa, and the incredibly picturesque town of Portovenere, one of the entrance points for a visit to the Cinque Terre.
After a drive along the northern Ligurian coast, we will arrive in Nice, the capital of the Cote d'Azur on the French Riviera, where we will stay for another four nights. From our hotel on the famous Promenade des Anglais, it is only a short drive to such wonderful places along the coast as the fairy-tale principality of Monaco and Monte Carlo, the beautiful Rothschild Villa and Gardens at Cap Ferrat, the picture-postcard village of St. Paul de Vence with its art galleries, craft shops, and incredible views, and the eagles-nest hilltop town of Eze.
For those who want to spend a bit more time in Italy, we will be offering an optional 3-night stay in the dynamic baroque city of Turin, capitol of the Piedmont region, one of the most famous wine producing areas in Italy. From here, we will take a day trip to drive into the vine laden hills south of Turin to visit a winery or two and wander through a couple of the medieval villages nestled in the folds of the hills.
